Woody,

One of my books has the 4th reactivating at Selfridge AFB in Sept 1946 with 11 of the 56th's P-47Ns and leaving for Andrews AFB in May '47, so yeah, you could claim a 56th P-47N and a 4th FG plane. They were painted like this one (http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/350/pics/3_109.jpg), but should also have had "PE" as part of the buzz numbers on the fuselage and should have had serial numbers on the tail. Known 4th P-47Ns: 488757 (PE-757) with serials lighter (maybe yellow?) than tail color and 488680 (PE-680) with black serial numbers and a black 80 on the cowling, partly overpainted by the red chevron. We were going from B&W photos and the serials on 757 were lighter than the background color, so not 100% sure of the colors of the serials.

HTH.

I don't know anything about their schemes but I think as long as it was something they would have in '46 that would be in the spirit of the contest. Would be interested in others thoughts.

Guys: I noticed on the list that the 56th Fighter Group evolved to the 4th FG in 1946.  Would a plane from the 56th FG count as a 4th FG plane?  Any help would be appreciated.  BTW, I am doing Don Gentiles' P51B that he flipped over and was grounded. Would be happy to also do a P47 if the 56th FG qualifies.  Thanks Woody G.
