as mentioned, he was going to use alclad, not a rattle can. and no, on silver he won't need a white base coat to enhance the red and blue. it want make any differance unlike painting yellow prop tips or something of that nature. hope this doesn't confuse you further. just make sure to put a base coat on before the alclad as you will end up with a gooy mess otherwise. clyde

Ryan, if you are going to do a natural metal finish, my suggestion would be to decant Tamiya AS12 from the spray can.  This way, with your air brush, you can control the spray unlike a rattle can.  Paint at about 15 psi and it will go on so smooth you won't believe it.  No primer, just make sure you have the plastic clean and shiny.  I do mine with 2400 grit through 12,000.  I will loan them to you if you need them.  Your suggestion of white to make red and yellow show up better is absolutely right.  Sounds like you know what you're doing, should be a pretty bird.  YOu will be shocked at how good that Tamiya AS12 looks on an airplane.  Good luck, Woody G.

Ryan, Are there going to be any awards, maybe gift certificates like before, for the September 4th Fighter Group Build voted on by the club?  Woody G.

Ryan, if I were doing this airplane, I would put down the silver first ,then the little white stripe, next red, then the blue.a very important point, make sure the model is absolutely clean from finger prints and such because with all that masking, there is lots of opportunities to lift the silver. hope this helps. clyde

Clyde,

I am not going to paint the logo, I will use decals for that. I was referring to the overall paint scheme. I thought with the red and maybe blue, a white base coat would make it look better.

Sorry for any confusion.

I have the Revell F-15E but it doesn't have any weapons except for the missiles.I thought Revell did a boxing with all or most of the various weapons carried on this plane. So,does anyone have any extra bombs and such that they aren't going to use. That plane looks nekkid not all bomed up.

On this scheme does it make sense to paint the white, then blue, then red, then Alcad or Alcad, then white, then blue, then red or is a different order better?

Sounds like everyone is off to a great start with their choice of aircraft and markings. Lets see some more! I have not locked in a subject yet but I am leaning toward a Spitfire.

hey guys, since I'am such a slow builder and have something else under way at the time , I would like to add p-51d "Suzon" buzz WDM to the pile if thats ok. clyde

I found a KC-135A Heller kit at the Hobbit. The decals are available on ebay for $21, I think I'll wait on the decals to see if a deal comes up.

Change of plans here, instead of doing a F-102 I shall be building a F-15E Strike Eagle.

Guys, I would like to do the KC-135A or R version. Italeri has a 1/72 scale kit but the kit does not come with either of the 4FG markings. Sprue Brothers has the decals listed on their site but are out of stock. Anybody have a kit and or decals that they would be willing to part with?
Thanks

Lee G and Ben Brown: Thank you for the info guys.  I found some 4th Fighter Group decals on Sprue Bros made by Eagle Strike.  They look nice so I ordered them.  I'm now doing Getiles P51b and a P47d.  Great to see you are going to be doing a 1/48th scale, Lee.  Cheers, Woody G.

Hi Ryan,

Superscale sheet 48-675 has Glover's markings for 44-64153:

Looks like Superscale sheet 48-400 has Glover's markings for the same a/c:

Yes, the Tamiya P-51D 8th AF kit with the fin fillet is perfect.
