The unit depicted in the movie would have used an M4A3E8, with a Ford gasoline engine. That was the standard for the US Army at that time.
The tank used in the movie was an M4A2E8 (diesel engine) because of availablity. Standard Sherman for the Brits, Marines (I think), and lots of other countries. The tank actually broke down during filming and they had to switch to an M4A2(105) with turret mods to finish the film.
Firefly was a completely different version with early suspension and turret and could be a variety of different early hull/engine combinations (they were all conversions of early British tanks).
if you want a tank accurate to what it should be for the era, use the Tamiya or Tasca kits of the M4A3E8 and they are almost spot on and really nice kits to build.
If you want it to match the film, you'll have to do the mods.

Wasn't sure how detail folks want to get. There is also the issue of what the base is and what they wanted the tank to be in the movi, M4A2E8 vs M4A4E8. I was also hoping to post photos of the tank in the movie, like in the second link. Still looking for more.

Boy the discussions on the forum got hot and heavy.
So what I can gleam from the discussion that to build Fury you would need the following which was posted by one of the forum members:

"I will use the deck and rear hull parts from the Dragon Soviet M-4a2 Soviet 76mm, they are still available on Evil-Bay quite cheep; well they were until the sellers find out that they are sitting on a possible gold mine.
Tasca M-4a3/E8 Korean War, T-84 tracks from the Tasca M-4a3/E-8 J.D.F. Version.
lower hull plate from the Tasca M-4a2.
Click 2 detail or from Joe B. lower suspension arms as there were different ones used on the knocked out Fury in the movie.
I have already posted on my Facebook page mrosko model madness aka 3M a challange to build an acurate M-4a2/E-8 from the movie.
I would like to thank Beau Minnick & Gary Owsley for their research and scrapbox assistance.
I will use other aftermarket items as well, figures, P.E., barrels etc."

Sounds too complicated for me. I'll just stick to the already boxed kits.

I have not seen it yet but want too.

It's not the same as a Firefly, it some ways you can say it was a poor man's version that came about years later.

For those wanting to model 'Fury'

Has anyone else seen the movie FURY?
I saw it last weekend and thought it was okay. Definitely has a lot of "Hollywood" in it!
What type of Sherman was Fury....M4E8? Is this the same as the Firefly?
