I've looked at all my F-105 references and all point to the rear-view mirrors being mounted at the 9:30 O'Clock and 2:30 O'Clock positions on the inside of the windscreen.  In two-seater F-105Fs and Gs, the rear-view mirrors for the Guy In Back was also mounted on the frame between the two seats.  I saw no instances, other than a Don Greer painting on the cover of the Squadron Walkaround book, were the mirrors were mounted on the opening canopy section.
