I also was in Roanoke. Avia Imports was there: Chris was there with her brother Mike. I saw Joe's Nieuport as well as his daughter's P-40 egg plane: Well done!

I would have to characterize model turnout as rather sparse. There was a very good showing of cars in various categories, including some nicely done big-rig trucks. As Joe says, 1/48 single-engined prop was well-represented. Quality in armor was good, but there weren't a lot of entries. Other categories were thin. The room was fairly full of attendees, and the vendor turnout was good, though I had the feeling that not a lot of money was changing hands.

Perhaps people are still hunkering down on account of the economy, and I suspect some of the big guns from Region 2 probably sat this one out since the IPMS USA nationals just finished up.

The venue at the Roanoke civic center is agreeable and easy go get to, though the lighting could be better. I hope the IPMS Roanoke Valley guys were satisfied with the results.

Cheers,

Lee Griffin

Hey Spanky, My daughter Katie and I were the only people present from Eagle Squadron. I entered several of my biplanes, a couple of quarter scale props (corsair, and two 190's), and my latest build, the F-16C. Katie won first place juniors aircraft with her P-40 eggplane. I took second in the rigged and biplanes with my Nieuport 28 (Rickenbacker's mount) and second in single engine jets quarter scale for the F-16C.

Unfortunately our contributions to points didn't add up to much for the shootout total :)

Hi guys,

Traveled up to Roanoke over the weekend. The local IPMS chapter was holding their show and had the opportunity to visit with family. Was cool, turnout seemed moderate at best although a ton of quarter scale single engine props were displayed ;)

Here are some pics...
