if the models are jets with lots of curved panels it is a little more dificult to scribe than say ww2 ac with mostly straight lines. however it is possible to scribe these by carefully drawing a needle along the raised panel and then sanding off the raised portion. this method requires lots of patince. as Lee says, a labor of love. clyde

Raised panel lines are just as representative of reality as are recessed panel lines.  Neither replicate what is really on the aircraft, which probably has a butt join with flush rivets.  Modelers tend to like recessed lines because they are easier to restore after the seam filling and sanding process and they can take a wash.  This is why almost all new kits are created this way.

But if you remove the raised lines, you are required to replace them with recessed lines by re-scribing.  That is a lot of work and tends to be a labor or love.  When I build an older kit, like those from Monogram prior to 1990, I build the kit out of the box and don't feel that my model is lacking because of it.

I have 3 older Hasegawa models recently purchased at a meeting.  All have raised panel lines.  Should I sand them down and scribe them?  Leave them?  I'm unsure as to what to do at this point.
