Thanks for the clarification.  I have amended the newsletter accordingly.

Lee, not trying to be picky, but I built Rudy T's B24J and Clyde painted it.  Just thought I'd mention it. BTW, there's still plenty to do.  The masks still need to be taken off, all 3 wheels put on, the turetts put in, and the nacells and props will finish it. Spanky is going to help me finish it next weekend.  Hope Ryan is doing the base, Lee the figures, and I know Spanky is doing the tractor.  I guess I'll find out this weekend.  Woody G

Mike Mittenzwei

Long-time club member Mike Mittenzwei passed away unexpectedly on December 30.  For those of you that had the honor of knowing Mike, you know that he was a gentle man who loved models and was passionate about aviation.  You'd often see him in the back of the room at Wake Tech with a stash of kits to sell, or in the aisle at Hayes Hobby in Fayetteville just enjoying the ambiance.  All of us in IPMS Eagle Squadron are deeply saddened by Mike's passing and an award will be named in his honor for RDUCON 2011.  There will be a moment of silence in remembrance of Mike at the meeting this Sunday.

Last Month's Meeting Highlights

We had our annual holiday meeting, highlighted by dozens of beautiful models built by members during the year.  There was the always entertaining gift exchange and excellent food from Smithfield Chicken and Barbecue.

Haywood Griffin Most Improved Modeler Award

Congratulations to Joe Marranca, who was given this prestigious award for his excellent models this past year.  Joe was awarded an Accurate Miniatures 1/48 scale F3F-2 kit which we certainly will see built sometime soon.

Rudy Tempesta B-24J Project

Work continues on Rudy's airplane "Oh Forty Nine", using the Hasegawa 1/72 scale kit.  Woody Griffin has completed building the model and Clyde Mills did the painting.  Lee Kolosna has finished the wheels and landing gear.  Tony Leger will apply the decals.  William Reece has the engines and props.  Lee Griffin is painting a figure or two.  Joe Marranca is painting the turrets.  Spanky McFarland is providing the weathering for the aircraft and also building a tractor.  Ryan Koschatzky will create a display base.  Woody Griffin is the overall coordinator of the project and will do the final integration.  We plan on having these tasks complete for a presentation ceremony at the February 2011 meeting.

This Month's Meeting

We will have a swap meet.  Take a look at your stash, make an honest evaluation of what you will and won't ever be building and bring your stuff on out to the meeting and try to make a few bucks from your fellow club members.  On the other side of the equation, don't forget to bring some money because there will be deals 'aplenty.  All modeling related items are welcome: kits, decals, tools, paint, supplies, and so forth.

RDUCON 2011

The contest flyer is done and ready for wide distribution.  Activities are going to pick up quickly, so please volunteer your time to help make this regional contest the best ever put on by Eagle Squadron.  Archer Fine Transfers has announced that they will sponsor all of our major awards for the show, for which we are truly grateful.  Thanks to Woody Vondracek and Norm Samuelson for their decades long support of our club.
