Hi folks...read on below if anyone would like to assist feel free to contact Chris to get involved.

To All C/C's and Presidents;
We have an urgent request from Chris Bucholtz, RC Region 9. Chris is also the C/C for IPMS Silicon Valley Scale Modelers, Milpitas California, (WWW.svsm.org)

The Message to Chris from the USS Hornet Museum is asking IPMS/USA to utilize our talents to build a historic display depicting actual events that occurred during the Pacific Theater WW2. With the talent we have within our Chapters can we fore-fill this request? YES!! It would be gratifying to see our Region and Chapters listed as participants in this venture. Contact Chris at WWW.BucholtzC@AOL.COM and please copy me. I believe this is a great way to showcase who and what IPMS is to all that view this display. We are looking to advance or hobby and educate people that we are more than just model builders and this is a great opportunity.

Regards
Tony Ivone

Subject: U.S.S.Hornet asks for IPMS's help

Hey, guys!

Mike Burton and I received an e-mail Monday from the U.S.S. Hornet Museum, asking our help for a couple of displays. First was a display honoring Steven Jurika; they requested a Doolittle-Raid B-25 and a pre-war yellow-winged TBD Devastator, both in 1:48.

They also want to do a battle of Midway-themed display. As you may know, that battle's a big interest of mine; the ship would like to do a display that includes at least one model from each of Hornet (CV-8's) air wing. CVW-8 had a dubious record at Midway; VB-8 and VS-8 took an erroneous course on what was later called "the flight to nowhere," and they took their VF-8 escort with them; all the Wildcats ditched and several pilots were never recovered. Torpedo 8 found the Japanese fleet, and what became of them is well known.

They liked the idea of additional aircraft from the battle. Any large grouping would be best in 1:72, for space reasons. I have a Zero nearly completed and a Yorktown Wildcat finished (it shot down my Zero's wingman), and I'll tackle Clay Fisher's VB-8 Dauntless (I know Clay and he was Stanhope Ring's wingman that day). I've already ordered $50 worth of probably unneccesary aftermarket stuff for my Hasegawa SBD, so I'm serious (at least as serious as I am capable of). These models need to be done by June 1 for installation aboard the Hornet in time for the 69th anniversary of the battle.

Is anyone up for this? For once, I can give you active help with this - I have a gigantic Midway library and I can give you lots of help with markings, or with even selecting a subject or pilot in many cases. I may be able to provide some decals.

Here's the "Assignment Board," as it stands. As I get volunteers, I'll fill in the list and send out updates.
