Mike Mittenzwei Estate

Anyone at the contest noticed the beehive of activity near the front of the hallway where Bill Leary, assisted by Ben Brown and Ronnie Murray, wheeled and dealed like the finest salesman in the world and managed to transition every single one of the nearly 400 kits that comprised Mike's estate.  It was a sight to behold.  Final numbers will be shared at the September meeting, but the proceeds will be turned back over to Mike's family with sincere thanks to Eagle Squadron for such an incredible effort.  Thanks also go to Tony Leger, Ryan Koschatzky, and Jon Emery for their invaluable help in transportation and inventorying the massive stash.

Don't forget Steve Payne for also his invaluable help in transportation and inventorying the massive stash. Not to take way from Jon, his help was in the transportation side for the stash at my house.

Last Month's Meeting Highlights

In April, Lee Kolosna conducted a workshop on IPMS judging – what the rules are, what judges look for, and tips for prospective contestants.

This Month's Meeting

We will have an informal build session this month and also in July and August.  Our regular club meetings will resume in September.  Bring a model to work on and just enjoy the company of other modelers doing the same thing for a couple of hours.  All are welcome.

RDUCON 2011

The regional contest was a smashing success, but all accounts.  We had 485 models on the contest tables with another 30 or so on the display tables.  There were 78 contestants and the vendor tables were filled.  Mike Wenger gave his excellent lectures on Pearl Harbor that actually drew an audience and a resounding applause at the end.  The contest went off without a hitch and we started the awards exactly on schedule.  All the feedback was positive, including e-mails from contestants and a very nice post on HyperScale's Plane Talking forum.  It was the best contest that Eagle Squadron has ever done and as close to flawless as we've ever seen.  Congratulations and a big thank you to all who helped make it happen.  More to come in the September meeting.

Build Outside the Norm

Our club is conducting a group build of subjects that we don't normally do.  For example, if you're primarily an armor modeler, you would select a car or a ship, or any subject from a category that you don't normally build.  The idea is to stretch your skills a bit and perhaps gain an appreciation for a different genre.  Any subject is allowed, and all members are welcome to participate.  Completed models will be presented for inspection at the September 18 meeting.
