Title: Do You Thin Future for Airbrushing
Post by: Bill L. on Tue 01/01/13 11:56 AM
I'm sure someone, if not me, has asked this before:  Do you thin Future for spraying and if so, what would you recommend?  Anything to stay away from??

Thanks
Bill L.

8 kits in progress: 2-1/350, 3-1/144, 3-1/72 - 4 NMF almost done

Looks like I found my answer out on HS forum: The answer is NO.  There is no need to thin it.

Bill, I don't know if they mentioned that you need to spray at high pressure so I would recommend trying it on some scrap first. incedently If you are doing this for decaling, I have just done this for the first time and it worked just like they say. and if you look like you have been to heavy handed, don't panic, it will even out. clyde

Seems I can't regulate the pressure :( so I control it with the duel action of my Iwata air brush.  Thin coats.  It looks like the first coat went down very nicely.

Yes, I'm doing this for decals, so I'm not sure if I'll need another coat for the decals to grab on to.  Probably better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the input.

Looks like you found your answer Bill. High pressure with light coats. Try not to let it pool up and run. "Light coats." Also I have given future a "flash coat" in the past if it went on to thick or uneven. Just a real real light mist of windex from the airbrush on the wet coat of future can even out the coat. But again be very careful and go light! Future is very forgiving but you will encounter problems if you overdue it. Like William I am not real fond of future but to this point I have not found a good alternative.
