I wanted to add to Jeff's list of awesome WW II books (thanks Jeff). I just finished "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos.
It is a true story and first hand account of the German Ace, Franz Stigler, who (while in his Bf 109) decided NOT to shoot down a crippled B-17 that was returning to England from a bombing mission over Bremen, Germany, on December 20, 1943.
Read the fascinating story, as told by both pilots, of why Stigler made the decision not to shoot down "The Old Pub" piloted by Captain Charlie Brown (no, not the 'Good Grief' one). Pictures are included (which helps a simple minded person like mine).
I know that Barnes and Noble carries this book.
Enjoy,
Jeff Maples
I read an interesting news article about them before Christmas.

Right, the book came out just before Christmas and has been selling fairly well.
I found the most fascinating parts of the book had to do with Franz's life and career in the German Air Force. A different perspective then I would have thought. Also, he was one of the few pilots that went from the Me 109 to the Me 262.
