Title: Going to the Nationals
Post by: Ronv on Sat 05/31/14 09:09 PM
Hey questions on going to and entering models in the nationals:
1. I registered and paid my $40. This also includes entry into the area for my wife since the registration asked for a guest's name?
2. I paid for two dinners at the banquet.
3. The awards ceremony is at a different time than the banquet?
4. I haven't seen any of the usual model entry forms? Have they been posted yet?

Thanks
RonV

Hey Ron,

As long as they do it the same way as last year:
1. Your wife will get a badge with her name, your IPMS number, and "Guest" on it, which gives access to everything. You should get badges in the mail if you pre-registered.
2/3. The Banquet is on Saturday night, in the room with the Awards Ceremony.  You'll eat dinner at 6 or so, and the Awards will start at 7; you can stay at the table for the whole thing.  Those not eating can fill in the back of the hall before the ceremony starts.  There is a second dinner on Thursday night you can buy tickets to; it's a Wounded Warriors charity event held at the VA Air and Space Museum on the waterfront in Hampton Roads.
4. Forms are on their page: http://www.ipmsusa2014.com/forms.htm
Categories/Rules are at: http://www.ipmsusa2014.com/categories.htm
It seems they're posting far more up-to-date info on Facebook concerning schedule and such: http://www.facebook.com/IPMSUSA2014

Also, be sure to swing by the Vendor room and see Joe and me at our Scale Modeling Quarterly Magazine booth!

HTH,
Matt

Thanks Matt! Yeah I found the forms, so from that point I guess its just like a regular contest.
We reserved a room at the Hampton Inn just up the street from the contest. My wife didn't like the choice of inns provided.
We will arrive hopefully around noon on Friday and get checked in and place my models on the tables. The plan is to spend Friday afternoon looking around the contest. Then Friday evening dinner somewhere? Anybody have recommendations? Saturday's plan is to walk around the contest room, attend a seminar, and then attend the banquet and awards ceremony in the evening.

Who else is going?

Ya know Ron you could have secret shoppers. For example; "spanky,go over to XYZ
models and grab me that 1/48 Farley Fruitbat, here's $$$$$." Then we get up at a later date I give you the kit(kits) then you sneak em into the house while no one is looking. Devious, ain't I.

Spanky, You sure you were not married in a previous life?? Only a married man would think of something that devious!

Ron,I'm sure I was married in a previous life. When I was a kid i had to sneak stuff by my mom and also I had to do that for other guys whose wives kept a close watch on their plastic purchases. So if you want me to buy stuff at the nats for you  I'd be glad to oblige. That's how I roll bro.I still need To get you that old 1/32 Monogram 8 wheeled armoured car.I almost was gonna give it to your wife at our show but nixed that idea.

Matt: Looked at the categories for the Nationals.  Looks like the ones I would be in are 107a to 107e.  How do you determine which Nationality or type of aircraft go in what category, other than their measurements?  Maybe I'm a dummy but it's very confusing.  Please give me some help. Thanks, Woody G.  P.S. (This is a NEW email)

Is anyone just going up for a day trip on that Saturday?  I am not entering anything obviously, I just want to enjoy the event.

Hey Woody,

I looked it over, and I don't see that they've been clear about which subcategory you'd be in. I'd fill my forms out with "107", and then let them add the letter when you register. I'm surprised they don't list the pre-planned split categories...
