Besides knowing Clyde at the club, I would run into him around Fuquay.  I was always so impressed with his skill, and will miss him and his blunt honesty. I offer my condolences to his family.

A tribute to Clyde from Sam.

Remembering a fellow scale modeler...

Sad. Clyde Mills past away last Wednesday.

He's gone and there ain't a damn thing I can do about it. I wish I could
have been there -- to tell him how much I enjoyed his company -- to thank
him for being a friend all these years -- to thank him for helping me be a
better modeler...

But, he's gone now. All that he ever was and all he ever will be -- just
gone and I am truly saddened at his passing.

He was seventy-seven years young and one helluva scale modeler. I knew him.
I competed against him for a long time, beginning with the contests in
Atlanta in the seventies when he lived in Georgia. He was one of the very
few who made all of us out-of-state modelers feel welcomed when we came
there to compete. I got a kick out of his sarcastic wit and great sense of
humor. He always had a grin on his puss and I will miss him. I will miss his
laughter and his conversations and his passion for polystyrene. He never
lost his edge or his yearning for competition. He, like several of us old
farts, knew that locking horns with the best made you that much better in
return. He gave a lot to our beloved hobby and got a lot in return. At least
I hope he did. If you had asked him, he would probably have told you however
that it was the camaraderie that mattered the most to him.

Let's face facts, folks. We're all getting older. I sit around at our
chapter meetings or at contests and gaze out at the wrinkled skin and
weathered faces of fellow modelers I have known for a long time now, some
for over forty years. I think of the joy our beloved hobby has brought to
not only me, but to everyone I see and I just hope and pray that the passion
to build lasts forever -- for all of us. Alas, such is not the case. Our
passions ebb and flow as we get older. For many, it disappears completely
and you never get the spark back. Sad. Truly sad. So many kits and so little
time. Get off your asses and build something. I know that's what Clyde would
say.

Clyde, I know you're in a much better place. I hope there's a hobby shop
close by and that you have an X-Acto knife with a perpetually sharp #11
blade. I hope Dave Lockhart and Don Harris are with you. I hope you will
watch over us as we continue our efforts to try to spread our enthusiasm for
scraping plastic to anyone else who will sit still long enough.

So long for now, my dear old friend. You will be missed, but you will always
be with us -- in our hearts and in our memories.

I'll see some of you people on Saturday and others on Sunday. Until then,
flog that plastic; make some dust.

I just heard this from Matt while in Fayetteville. Very sad news. Clyde was always supportive of fellows and will be missed.
