Hey what was the website and what is the name of the expert on the production age of kits that was mentioned at Sundays meeting?
Thanks

handy if you want the lineage of a kit.
Thanks much!

Lee mentioned someone on Hyperscale? Maybe? I have a terrible memory for stuff like this...
David Nickels
thanks much!
I am trying to find out how old the kit I have of a Comet 4 made by Flugzeug Modellbaukasten is. I had never hear of this company before. I think the kit is from 1970. Did you know that there is a German Modeling Magazine devoted entirely to kits made by Flugzeug Modellbaukasten. I have sent the German magazine an email to see if they know the age.
RonV
Yes, David Nickels is the guy. Ron, if you want me to post on your behalf if you don't have a Network 54 account, let me know.
Thanks,
Lee G.
Hey Lee, Yes would you post that for me?
thanks
RonV
Hi Ron,
I put up a post on Hyperscale Plane Talking.
Also, you probably already saw this, but just in case: This lists the dates of release as 1964-1986.

Can you describe or point me to a picture of the specific box art you have?
Thanks,
Lee
Thanks Lee!
I have attached an image of the Comet 4. The box art is different than the one on the link you provided.
RonV
Hi Ron. A poster on Hyperscale provided some useful information. Based on his description, perhaps your Comet is from the 1969-1973 era.
Here's the text from his post:

Dating Plasticart kits

The two dates quoted [these are the dates at the site I reference earlier] are the years in which the model was in production. So, for the Comet, it first appeared in 1964 and continued to be produced until 1986.
VEB stands for Volks Eigener Betrieb which means "publicly owned operation", the organisation under which the East German nationalised industries operated.
The kits were called Plasticart and the VEB had a number of different names. It was KVZ in 1969 and had a snake for a logo. Between 1969 and 1973 it was MPKAB and their kits came in a blue box. The last name was Plasticart Zschopau from 1973 to 1989. From 1987 their kits came in a black box. This information is from the link given above.
To further pinpoint the date the kits had a piece of paper inside called a Packzettel (packing slip). Along the top, for example, are the years 1982, 1983, 1984 with a V-shaped notch cut in the paper opposite 1983. Down the left side of the paper are the numbers from 1 to 30 with a notch cut opposite the 2. Further down are the Roman numeral I to XII with a notch opposite V. From this I can say that my Tu-144 was packed on the 2 May 1983.
Now try and date one of the early Japanese kits! The only clue you have is the date under the artist's signature on the box art.

I did some more research on my UPC ME-262A...Looks like UPC repackaged a "Marusan" kit, which apparently was the first Japanese plastic model company, even the decals are the same. And this model was apparently made from a 50's vintage Lindberg mold...
The best date I can come up with is still before July 1st 1963, because of the postal code...
I've got a question out on "modelkitcollecting.com", but so far no one seems to know anything more specific than that...
