When using Tamiya paint, how many drops of thinner do you guys use for about airbrush cup size of paint? I don't think I use enough.
I usually go with a 1/3 to 1/2 ratio... 1 thinner/3 paint or 1 thinner/2 paint...Tamiya thins pretty easily, so you need to watch for spidering at higher thinner ratios...
Tony,
I love the Tamyia paints, but don't use their thinner (still need to test it out).
I mix up to 1/3 of 91% alcohol and that lets the paint lay down very nicely for me, and dry reasonably quickly.

@Chuck, more thinner is what I need then.

Thank Bill, pain meds working today? :)
Ryan, Tamiya paint can be thinned with isopropyl alcohol, Tamiya acrylic thinner, Tamiya lacquer thinner, or hardware store lacquer thinner as well as with quality automotive lacquer thinner. If using alcohol, make sure you're close enough to the surface to prevent the paint drying in the air on the way because the paint does tend to dry quickly when thinned with alcohol.
Specific ratios are hard to quantify, but you want it fairly thin for spraying. The most commonly accepted description for proper consistency is warm milk. A drop on a stirring stick when touched against the edge of your color up or mixing jar should run immediately down. Not thinning enough is the most common mistake.
Good luck!

Thanks Lee. I think under thinning had been my main issue. I am always concerned about over thinning and spider webs.
