:( Our fellow modeler Thomas Joe Gantt passed away this morning. No details yet. Joey was the very first person I met at the first IPMS contest I attended at The Achievement School in Raleigh in May 1989. #2 was probably Lee Griffin. Joey was showing the then new Revell 1/48 F-89 Scorpion that day and may have won Best Aircraft. I won Best Naval Aviation with an equally new Revell 1/48 A-6E Intruder and he came up to me and told me what a nice job I'd done. He was that sort of person. Thank Goodness I wasn't competing against that one. Mine wasn't in the league with his F-89. Resplendent in Natural Metal and Day-Glo paint. Impressive is an understatement. He was that sort of person. I think Joey was a charter member of Eagle Squadron but I'm not certain. I know he was a jet engine tech at SJAFB during the time IPMS/ES was formed.
You have slipped the surly bonds,
Blue Skies my friend,
William
I recall seeing him a few times at Wake Tech. Nice fellow.

Hand salute Airman, job well done!
Rest in peace, Joe. Good man.
