I have found lots of useful info for how to build a more accurate I-16 from Modeling the VVS website: http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Modeling/Polikarpov/I-16/Kit_Comparison/index.php
Seems that while the Academy is not perfect or the Eduard kit, the boxing has a lot of parts to build many different versions. Any ideas on what color the cockpit is? Some research showed that the IP can very from a blueish color to black, but they didn't discuss the pit in general. Also does anyone have any pit pics?
I have found a cheap pit and cowl set that will help from Model Shack.

Hi Ryan,
Looking through Pilawski's book 'Soviet Air Force Fighter Colors 1941-1945' it mentions the following:
Quotein the 1930's, many VVS aircraft were finished with an interior aviation lacquer named A-14 and there was nitrolak version dubbed A-14F. A-14 lacquer was labelled 'steel' and it had a dark grey colour somewhat like AMT-12, with a hint of green
This place has a good table of colors for the colors:

Thanks,

Thanks Mika.
Can anybody give guidance to what color would be close enough to FS-26293, Stockholm didn't offer anything matching any current product. Would a dark gull grey work?
Mark sent me some pit pic's. Here is one of them.
