Does anyone have any experience making those peel n stick vinyl masks ? Apparently you should be able to take artwork to a sign maker to get some printed/cut. Any leads locally would be useful.... Let me know Thanks
Tony
I've used some that were provided in various kits from the Czech Republic. they work fairly well, although they can't stick to a large compound surface like a bubble canopy. Usually they provide just the outline and make you mask the rest with tape. For greenhouse canopies, they are great. For modern jets, the windscreen masks are helpful. I've never purchased aftermarket ones, but a number of guys in our club have and like them.
As for someplace local, I would check the Yellow Pages directory. You probably will get a blank stare when you inquire about them.

Last time I was in AC Moore, I saw this printer-looking machine that scrapbookers use to make their own cutouts. I'll bet you could use it with an 8.5x11 sheet of vinyl, if you want to make the investment in time & $$$. For canopys, I still don't think you can beat plain ol' Scotch tape and an Exacto.

Never mind. I looked that cutter up online. It's 650 bucks! http://www.acmoore.com/p-59704-cricut-expression-cutting-machine-bundle.aspx

Thanks Ben,
The idea I have is...draw the pattern for some stiffener plates and panels for use on a Flanker update set in 1:48 scale and have a sign maker cut it for me. Presumably I could draw what I need with multiple to a 8.5x11 sheet have the sign maker do the cut into the vinyl then I trim the sheet down for packaging. I'm casting a Sorbysta pod set (ECM wingtip pods) and a new Stinger tail. Later I plan to do the TVC exhausts, but haven't finished two of the three key aspects of that.
Canopy masks are well covered so I'll stay away from that...maybe some splinter camo patterns though.

Email Dave Roof orionmodels@att.net, he sells stiffener plates for F-18's and 16's and maybe able to help you with your project.
