Title: PM T-38A
Post by: CorsairAU1 on Sat 09/25/10 04:32 PM
Anybody have one? Is it any good? My experience with PM kits says probably not, but sometimes a manufacturer will surprise you. Looking for something to put 2Bobs USNTPS decals on; Sword kit is OOP.

Never heard of PM. Pro Modeler? The only 1/48 T-38 I'm aware of besides the Sword kit is the old 1/50 one by Fujimi. I think it's been repopped by a couple of other companies, too. It's basically just a shell, with no cockpit detail, just seats.

I just finished a PM 1/72 DFS-194 (the prototype of the ME 163). The fit was reasonable but does not compare to either Hasegawa or Tamiya. Plan on having large gaps between the wings and fuselauge, doing some seam filling, and rescribing of panel lines. Also the detail is lacking in these kits. So if you want some good cockpit detail you'll have to create your own.

Hi, Ron!
I have the DFS and the Ta154 - neither are fun builds unless you like sanding and filling (repeat 3x!!!).
These kits are cheap and have some offbeat subjects that are sometimes only otherwise available in resin.

I finally found a short review on the Airfix e-mag. Seems the T-38 fits the same description as the 2 above.

Since the T-38 is done by Sword, and fairly well, I was trying to decide between flipping out bucks for the OOP -38A model, waiting for the soon to be released -38C model and backdating it, or going cheap with the PM kit.

Clyde,

I believe PM is the successor of Pioneer, if that helps.

Abbreviations/acronyms can cause confusion. When the mag SAMI first hit the market, those not familiar with Scale A/C Modelling (SAM), called it SAM and caused a good deal of confusion until SAMI became the accepted short form.
