So sorry to hear that. Anyone from the club going to the funeral? I'll pitch in for a donation from the club, if we want to go that route.

I am just shocked.  I've known Mike since I joined the club in 1997 and have enjoyed his company through the years.  Many kits in my collection have come from him, and all were offered to me with a very generous discount.

He did have a number of health issues that he was dealing with, although I never inquired as to what exactly they were.   He retired from his State of North Carolina job just this past summer and was looking forward to retiring and getting to work on the models in his stash.

And for the record, he completely settled up with me for the loans I gave him over the years.

I'll miss him.

Guys: As Lee mentioned, Mike always had a big stash of kits with great prices.  I saw him a few weeks ago at Hayes Hobby shop and he was buying a Lancaster at $27, typical of Mike.  As for what was wrong with him, he had a bad heart and a very serious case of diabetes.  May he R.I.P.  He was a good guy.  Woody G.

He was at the last club meeting and seemed to be fine.  His quiet nature will be missed.

I talked with his sister in law and passed on a card from us all. I didn't ask nor was it offered what the cause of death was.

I propose that we offer an annual award in his name for our contest. Did Mike have any special likes?

Ron,

I agree. I had sent the Executive board a post tom ake  a best of or Category Named the Mike Award for Best whatever. Sadly I didn't know him well enough to pick one. I would assume Best AC since he was a pilot and controller.

Thinking back to the service there was lots of talk about Mike helping people.

How about the Mike Mittenzwei People's Choice Award?

I have signed the guest book on behalf of the club. I will miss him as a long standing club member and one of the RDUCON categories will go to him. I like People's Choice as Mike was a man of the people sharing his knowledge and helping out. Looking at his obituary he really was a giving man to the community and he will be missed. I really like the picture Lee posted which I believe was at the 100th Anniversary of Flight display where he was fully in his element. Thank you Mike for the memories.

I think the People's Choice Award would be a good one.

I agree with Ben and Ryan on the naming the Peoples Choice award after Mike.  It would be a fitting recognition for him.

I am so sad about Mike's passing. I just got the news today: I've been out of the loop for a while - out of town and a couple of days in the hospital with my own heart thing (atrial flutter: Fixed by stopping and restarting.). I knew Mike had had some heart issues, but this is just a shock.

Rest in peace, Mike.
