No photos tonight. Mixed water and wood glue, applied to all pieces. Add sand ballast to main piece. For the brick wall the joints could be wider as the glue will fill them in.

Found some great weathering how to's.

That is outstanding work Ryan

Thanks Bill.

I found some small plastic mixing containers I was looking for so I can mix the glue to sill the foam and also use the clay shay. Hope to show more in a few days.

My tools of destruction

What I have so far.

I am going to add sand to the cobble stone road and sidewalk. I need to do something with the top the brick wall and column. My thoughts is to use the clay shay to make a cement cap on the wall and try to make a bowl or something for the top of the column. Open to any ideas.

My headless German for scale.

So you just cut the sheets/blocks into shapes as needed.  Then you sand and scribe in the details.

Yep, it's that simple. Not sure it's economical for the whole base to be balsa foam but for walls and such it is great.

I hope to work the clay and styro foam for the base similar to SMA link I posted.

Even works for the smaller scales, I don't have much for 1/48 figures that I could find easy, but the in-between should work fine.

If I took my time the brick wall might look a little better.
The wall on the left is an attempt at a slate stone wall.
The figure is from the Hasagawa 1/72 F-18.

Looks good Ryan.  So you just cut the sheets/blocks into shapes as needed.  Then you sand and scribe in the details.  Very interesting.

That sounds great Ryan. I hope you can bring it to the next meeting. I am making a T-34 diorama and I am using regular old foam from wal-mart.

You can use this to just make the wall or other structures. Following this post is lead to the discovery.

For his foam base he added clay shay to make things more solid. I bought some but have not tried it.

The package came in the other day.

Using only the balsa II, I cut out a small dio section. It includes a sidewalk, cobble road, and a brick wall. Pretty easy to work with. Need to make a few more stamping tools and scrapers.

Photos later.

And yes, there is a lot of dust.

I just place an order, should have it by the dinner and hopefully something (a small wall maybe) by the Oct meeting.

That looks really cool!  Could be great for building diorama's for hangars or car garages....  of course tank destroyed villages...
