Lee and Clyde: Thanks for the info guys.  Mine is a bubble-top so the area will be neutral gray and OD.  P.S.  Happy New Year! Woody G.

Woody, Lee is absolutly correct on the colors. a P-47 razorback in od has the exposed flap area painted in od also.

If it is a razorback which came from the factory in Olive Drab over Neutral Gray, then the exposed flap area is also the same surrounding color.  Since all bubbletops were delivered from the factory without paint, then it depends on who did the painting and if they painted the airplane when the flaps were down.  So a P-47D-25 and higher per could have natural metal in the exposed flap areas, or they could be Olive Drab (or often RAF Dark Green) on top and Neutral Gray (or RAF Medium Sea Grey) underneath.  For aircraft in the 56th Fighter Group, it appears that the exposed flap areas were indeed painted with the camouflage color.  I have never seen a color photo that showed a P-47 with Chromate Yellow here.  Not to say that it never occurred, but it had to have been exceedingly rare.

LeeK: When the flaps are down, what color is the area where they go on an olive-drab and neutral gray airplane?  Somebody mentioned yellow zinc chromate primer, and I don't think that's right. I know I should know as many as I've built, but I'm doing that 1-32nd scale and I want to make sure I get the right color.  Look forward to your answer, thanks WoodyG
