Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire review at HS

The other T company has a Messerschmidt BF-109E-3. Kit consists of 274 parts on 10 sprues plus 3 rubber tires. With a fully detailed engine & cockpit, positionable flaps and photo etched detail parts coming out in Jan 10 for $70. Seems only certain types are hitting the $130 range. The Hase P-47 is around that $70 mark.

Trumpeter is all over the map, though.  Their jet kits are pushing the $200 mark.  Their P-47 is around $110.  The F4F Wildcat is around $60.  Hasegawa's P-47 doesn't have the features of Trumpeter's kit, like full engine and turbosupercharger plumbing, open gun bays, and posable control surfaces.  I actually prefer Hasegawa's approach, as most of this stuff comes across as gimmicky.  Tamiya's 1/32 A6M5 had springs in the landing struts and the gear actually retracted into the wings.  The pictures for the sprues for the Spitfire IX coming out show a complete engine, posable control surfaces, retracting landing gear, and engine panels made of metal that are held in place with magnets hidden inside the engine.  Lots of neat stuff, but it also borders on gimmicky.  Unfortunately, we modelers have to pay for that.

Around $130 or so, from Hobby Link Japan including shipping.  About par for the course nowadays with big, complicated 1/32 scale kits.

That is a nice looking kit   I can only imagine what the cost will be.
