36251 is Aggressor Gray, and it's made by Testors.  36176 is called Dark Gray and is also in the Testors line.  It's the same colors that F-15Cs are painted in, known as the "Mod Eagle" scheme.  The bigger question is how to replicate that metallic sheen seen on Raptors in certain lighting conditions.  Talk about a modeling headache!

Lee,

Thank you for your timely response..........    I just received my Academy/Minicraft 1/48 Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor kit from the bowels of Seoul, South Korea via EGAY.

Can anyone/ANYONE PLEASE make any sense of the new FS colors: 36251 and 36176????????????????????????????????????????

I am itching for a nuke strike and I don't know why..........

Mike,

Since I live in Chapel Hill and have no access to any reasonable drive to a hobby store, I have resigned myself to ordering all my paints on-line.  It's a pain, to be sure.  For modern US aircraft, I find the Testor Acryl line of paints to be the most complete in regards to color coverage.

Ben,

Thanks for the reply.  I made a road trip down to Hobbit hobby store in Fayetteville and found all sorts of nifty stuff to include a Humbrol Colour Cross Reference Chart [wheel device that cross references Gunze Hobby, Mr. Color, MM Enamel, MM Acrylic,Tamiya, Humbrol, Pactra, Vallejo, Agama and Revell] - it is pretty stinking cool.

Also picked up a Kinetic F-16DG/DJ Block 40/50 Two Seater Viper kit - Looks very nice and has enough ordnance to outfit around 8 1/48 scale kits - no lie - it was like getting three Hasegawa weapons kits as extras........ Very impressed with this brand - hoping it goes together as nice as it looks in the box.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I don't think there is a better list, since there aren't very many Tamiya colors that are actually matched to any standard, other than some of their WWII Japanese colors. I've got a short list of WWII color mixes that I found online a while back, but nothing for more modern planes. I can post it, if you need it. What are you building? Maybe somebody has a mix that can come close to the colors you need.

All,

I visited the Hobby store in Fuquay today. Decent selection of Tamiya Acrylics.  Does anyone have a better link to a Tamiya to Federal Standard Chart than the IPMS Stockholm link?

Thanks,

Mike
