That's an awesome museum, well worth the $13 (!) parking fee.  It will be interesting to make the trip again once Discovery is in place.  So much history to see and some really unique planes - the first FedEx jet and the 707 that was barrel rolled come to mind.

Hi Guys, it was a fun trip, but only one of three stops we had in VA that weekend, so we didn't get to spend too much time there - only a couple of hours (to my dismay)! We didn't go to the mall, although I've been there a couple of times already. The shuttle that is there is still the non space fairing Enterprise and they have quite a few pieces that have been in space too. It was a great visit with the kids!

Ryan, I'm always looking to build string bags - about to rig one this weekend! :)

Good trip Joe! Did you get a chance to go to the one on the mall too?

The hanging P-40 is "Lope's Hope" named after the actual P-40 that was flown by the past director of the Air & Space Museum. (He died just recently) He intentionally had a midair collision with a Japanese Zero and used his left wing tip to slice through the zero's wing. He flew home the Japanese didn't. Artist William Phillips did a nice painting about it.

A&S were to get one of the working space shuttles.

Nice to see the P-61 on display.  I was there about seven years ago and it appears that they have added quite a few more interesting airplanes.  Is the retired Space Shuttle there (I forget which one they claimed), or is it still Enterprise?

Great pictures Joe; I'd love to get up there one weekend.

Nice pics of one of my favorite places in the whole world.
Anyone up for a road trip?

That looks pretty cool. You going to build a few more string bags now?
