Thanks, Matt.  Clear tops on the Firestreak missiles, aye.

Great looking build!  I'm always impressed when you guys solve problems (decals in this case) that would leave me bewildered.

Also, are the tips on the missiles clear?

25 November 1958 Lightning    XA847 exceeds Mach 2 in level flight for the first time. Not to bad for a muffin top.

Matt Feiden

muffin top??  more like the whole damned bakery.....

Very nice model Lee. Classic finish. Looks like it has a little beer belly!

While I don't have an issue with a 'tool shed', I don't think it looks good on a fighter. If it was a cargo jet then it wouldn't be so bad, but nobody likes a fat prize fighter.  :)

We used to refer to belly roll as "turret overhang".

Ryan K

Very nice as usual.

Just something about the belly roll that just kills the look for me.

This is the kit from the 1998 pressing before Airfix descended into their dark period.  I understand that the new tool kits issued under Hornby management have decals printed by Cartograph, so I think they are aware and have fixed the decal issue.  Thanks for the comments, Ron.

Very nice Lee! I have always liked the look of the Lightning. The Lightning looks like it's going fast just sitting there. Is this the new Airfix kit or the older release? You would think that Airfix has had enough feedback to know that the kit decals are horrible.

This is the very nice Airfix kit with the long-gone Cutting Edge resin cockpit.  The main markings came from a Cutting Edge sheet as well, but the kit decals were a disaster and could not be saved even with Micro Super Film, so there are no stencils and I had to mask and paint all the striping on the wing tops and belly.  The attachment of the fiddly bits on this fragile model nearly drove me insane.  Lightning F2A based in Germany, 1974.  Floquil Bright Silver undersides and Testor Acryl Dark Green on top.  Alclad Polished Aluminum for the nose ring, which you can see doesn't fit too well.
