Thanks

Yes a good amount of paint and twists to get all sides. When compared to a 1:48 Eagle the 48 scale one looks really small so can't imaging a 1:144 next to a 1:32  except it be viewed maybe as gnat sized

Looking good Tony. That must eat up alot of paint! Great Job.

Blues now done and prepping for decals. I used the blue tac putty to put the pattern on then sprayed. The paints are Model Master Enamels....

Making some headway....got my first set of actuators done for the engines. I'm pleased with the results. Also started to paint; first round the light blue is too dark and now I'm lightening it. I do like the the blue/light blue scheme....eye catching.

Thanks Folks....

I'm very happy as today Revell sent me a new replacement clear canopy for the project...Thanks Revell :)   I still can't get over how big this kit is; so you can just imagine a Flanker in 1/32. I will say with a few parts from Bruce, new exhausts, and the clear canopy then some  attention to detail make this kit is a pretty inexpensive pretty accurate F-15D model. Yes it does not have rivets everywhere, but nevertheless it looks the part nicely. With a bit more seam work my  next steps are the base primer and then pre-shade before onto the two tone blue adversary scheme. I believe in the pre-shade being subtle but noticable. below is a link to what it should look like when I'm done...

Those rivets are very cool!

Nice detail work Tony!

Here are some new progress shots...

- Engines are from the Tamiya Kit but corrected for the correct length...still need to do the actuator rods

- Tails have the stiffeners added with rivet decals from Archer Fine transfers

- The missile launchers have also been updated to current models

So far looks good Tony. The pit looks nice and looks like you are making some good progress.

I've never seen this Revell kit firsthand, but the photos look pretty good.  I guess the knock on it is that it really is a D and not an E, like it purports to be?

Everything
in 1/32 is expensive, from the kit itself to all the aftermarket items that sometimes are absolutely required to provide detail (Revell F-4E cockpit) or accuracy (lots of Trumpeter stuff).  But I have found that my annual cost of modeling has actually gone down overall since I focused on 1/32.  Each model project runs $100 to $200 each, but it takes me six months to do so.  So two models a year for around $400 and I'm set.  When I built 1/48, I spent way more than that (even though a good portion of the kits went into the stash and languished there).  I guess it's because of the relative cheapness of a smaller scale kit.  I think long and hard before buying any new 1/32 scale kit and do so only when I am certain that I am going to build it.

Hi gang,

Here are some initial pictures of my F-15D build in progress for the fall USO gala. I'd like to thank Bruce Radebaugh for generously providing me the cockpit front and back instrument panels, rear cowling, and a wheel set for this build. Also thanks to Bill Leary for loaning me his Tamiya Burners to modify and cast. I got this kit when Curt Bandle was moving and offered the club a number of models he no longer wanted (big thanks Curt).

I have to say as this is my first 1/32 build these models are BIG!!! The kit is nice enough ~$35-$45 on ebay for the re-released one or slightly less at times for the version I'm using which is the F-15E demonstrator version.

A few things I've done are to reinforce the sides and inside the wings and if feels pretty solid now... Assembly has been pretty straightforward so far and things tend to line up well. There were some vents on the underside I filled in with strip stock then sanded.  I cut off the ailerons so I could position down like many an Eagle parked. I found the True Details ejection seats I picked up sit low in the tub so I put in some shims underneath. The kit's panels have no rivet detail, but I'm not going to spend a lot of time trying to add with a pounce wheel.  The vertical tail will need me to make the larger ECM part at the tip for this version of the kit...apparently the re-release one has it and new ACES seats (vs Escapac ones).

The resin parts from Bruce are quite nice and inexpensive. Bruce at his website explains how to correct the Tamiya burner which is too long http://partsrparts.homestead.com/F15tailcones.html the changes were pretty easy to do and the Tamiya parts look great.... The one scary thing I find with 1/32 is those aftermarket parts in general are so dang expensive.... The decals I'll be using are mostly from the Two Bob's Digital Flanker for $14 it covers all three scales (1/72, 1/48, 1/32) on the same sheet. I won't be doing the digital scheme but the plane with be the two blue variant.
Those colors are available from Model Master....

stay tuned for more updates...Tony
