Thanks Ron, I'll pencil you in!

I'll see if I can get the KC-135 done in time for the NATs.

Thanks Lee, it's very much appreciated!

My F-100C will be there.  I am transferring ownership to the club so you'll have it before the contest.

Hopefully this will be a great opportunity to show off some of our work to the larger IPMS world.  The rules governing the entry are as follows:

"IPMS Chapter/Group Entries (Category 850). The Chapter/Group entry
shall be the only exception to Rule I-1 calling for the model-making work to be
done by a single individual. The intent of this category is to provide a forum
for displaying a project that is too extensive or complex for a single individual
to complete in a reasonable time. It is also intended to provide a vehicle for
an IPMS chapter or a group of IPMS members to exhibit a project that may
have been prepared for an event or display other than the IPMS/USA National
Contest. Subject-matter, time-frame, scale, location, etc., are open. Models
comprising a winning chapter/group entry may subsequently be entered
individually if they were not, themselves, previous winners. First place in this
category will be acknowledged by a "Special Award," presented in addition to
the normal category award. This will be a rotating award: the winning group
or chapter will have its name engraved on the award and retain it until the
next convention. At that next convention, they may defend the award with
another entry, or turn it over to the next winner in rotation. The original
winners will retain the normal category award. This rotating award is intended
to promote club activities and a healthy competition."

Our 4th FG build certainly fulfilled the intent of this category being a club activity and a subject larger than a single builder.

My initial thought is to make a very simple "concrete tile" tarmac reminiscent of SJ AFB for a display base with some of the various logos attached/embedded.  A small placard/tent can be created for each model to explain the 4th FG connection, aircraft type, pilot, etc.  A larger placard can give an overview of the history of the group.

I'll plan on handling the registration for the entry when I arrive on Wednesday.  I'll set the base up, and you can add your models when you arrive (if attending).  All of the models will need to be in place by the time registration closes on Friday (around 6pm most likely).  Just as a side note, I don't believe that there is any additional cost for the group entry.  I'll check to be sure, but I believe it's covered by those who do register, so you can send your model without needing to register/pay.

For those who are not attending, or are not planning to be at the convention before 6pm on Friday, August 8th, we can discuss arrangements for bringing your model.  I'll be driving up on Wednesday, and would be glad to carefully bring it along with me.  I'd also be glad to pick up your model at your convenience closer to the Nats.  The final scheduled meeting before Nats will be on July 20th.  This would be a great chance to do a test setup/drop off kits.

This was the original list of participants in last year's 4th FG build thread.  I know there are others, like me, who built, but didn't finish on time or were not on the list here:
William Lumbattis: Tamiya 1/48 scale Spitfire MKVB. "Stinky" Lt Duane Beeson. 334 FS Debden
Lee Griffin: 1/48 scale F-86/F-30. Late war. Pilot Clyde Curtin
Ronnie Murray: 1/48 th scale P-47, 1/32 scale P-51. Pilot Duane Beeson
Spanky: 1/48 scale F-15E
Bill O: 1/48 F-4 C/G Mich NG/TF 102
Clyde: P-51 D, P-51 B "The Deacon."
Mika: Spitfire MKVB 4TH FG markings
Woody: 1/48 P-51B. Pilot Don Gentile. 1/48 scale P-47D. "Miss Dallas"
Tony: Hurricane MK II
Ryan: P-51D. Pilot Maj Glover

I'll edit the list below to keep a running tally of who is participating, and with what kit.  I think it's important that we have a Spitfire and F-15E to bookend the history of the group at the very least.  If you'd like to build something new or contribute a 4th FG aircraft that wasn't part of the group build, please do so.  Most of the builds seem to be in 1/48 if you're starting something new.  Duplicated aircraft are no problem, we want to show off what our club has done, so the more the merrier!  The original thread had a history of 4th FG aircraft: http://www.old.ipmseaglesquadron.org/restored_forum/index.php?topic=1151.0

Participants:
Spitfire - XXX
P-51D - Matt Cottrell
F-100C - Lee Kolosna
KC-135 - Ron Verburg - In Progress
F-15E - XXX

Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas!

Matt,
My contribution to the 4th Fighter Group build was the Class 530b fire truck.  I would like to enter it separately, so unfortunately I will not be able to make a contribution to this effort.
Regards,
Steve

Matt has agreed to lead this effort. Get with him on the details. The models of the Fourth Fighter group contest from last September would be a great start.
