Tony - Not that I noticed but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.  I originally went there looking for the Polar Lights "Dragonfly" as a Christmas gift to myself.  The paint was an after thought since I seam to be building NMF or Silver A/C these days.

I will check it out specifically the next time I 'stop by' !

I think they restocked their Tamiya rack from what came from HT.  I too have heard that they intend to restock the Testors racks.
Bill - did you see any other "expendables" - ie tape, paint brushes, etc?

As for the stocking of the shelves, it may be a project for us to help them in sorting them by function - armor, ships then scale - that is if they will take advice.

Time will tell.

So I went by on Friday (FYI- Not opened on Sundays) and it appears that they have all the plastic model inventory out that they brought over from HT. I did notice that 1) it was unsorted in any manner, 2) some prices were 1-2 dollars higher than HT was asking, but most were reasonable 3) the Tamyia paint was well stocked, better than the Testors infact.

The sales guy did say he expected to completely fill all the Testors paint slots, so that was encouraging.

I walked away with a rattle can of Tamyia gloss black and the Monogram AH-1F Cobra for $25 total.... just trying to support the cause.

Good News- Bad News
Bad news, is as we have all said, the Apex store filled a niche.
Good news is its closer to where I live ... too bad they're closed on Sunday.

Just called regarding Metalizer Sealer (didn't have any at the moment) but he said they would be stocking all Testors paints and sealers that they have a rack slot for. :)  I should have asked about Tamyia paints but I'll scope that out when I go there tomorrow.

He did say they have most of the HT inventory out on shelves as best they can at the moment.  Not sure what that really means but again, I'll find out!

Now - Off to Sprue Bros. to place an order.

Sorry about the Hobby Town. I bought a few kits and some paint there. I hate to see yet another shop close. We're jinxed. The Pro-Mow shop is a long way from Durham. If they're open on Sundays, I might make a trip up 401 after a club meeting.

Cheers,

If their history is any indication, I fear you are on the right track Ron.  I can only hope the conversation I had with Greg on Friday will help with their desire to broaden their horizons.  Again only time will tell.
Regards to all.

Does anyone know if they plan to re-stock plastic kits with new releases or is their main focus still just on RC and they just want to sell off the plastic kits to be rid of them??

I guess we can remove Hobby Town from our list of local hobby shops.

Just a heads up, Pro Mow/ Raleigh Hobby has pretty much the entire Hobbytown plastic model inventory out on the shelves as of this Saturday morning! No Model Master paints out yet.

I too have not been overly impressed with Raleigh RC when it comes to plastic modeling.  Maybe with this transfer of material they will be more receptive to this form of modeling - only time will tell.  According to the signs and talking with the guy at Raleigh RC, the TOTAL inventory was sold to them.  How soon it will see the shelves is also a question of time.

I had a chance to talk to the owner when I was getting some paint and found stocks low. He said they were closing as as of Jan their rent was going up and couldn't make it work. He is going back to his old job. No word on what they would do with existing stock or sales....

Raleigh Hobby and RC is in the ProMow shop. They wouldn't sponsor us for the last contest, doubt if they will sponsor us for the next one. He gave me some bull story about how I would have to contact the distributor to get sponsorship. I was not impressed with them at all.

Ben,
Sorry about that :-(
The Raleigh RC folks indicated they would have paint, but did not indicate when it would be put in the shop. They said they had 40 bags of kits to inventory and shelve first.  The Model Master paint selection was something he indicated the Hobby Town had allowed to get low.
Paint, both Tamiya and Model Master, as one item I stressed was very desired.

Well, that's a bummer. I need paint!

Went by there today - windows & doors covered with black curtains - two signs posted saying full store inventory had been sold to Raleigh RC & Mowers in Garner on Fayetteville Road.
Talked with Greg at Raleigh RC - he confirmed that the Hobby Town owner (Greg) had sold them the full inventory as of this past Monday.  He said they will be checking in the inventory and working to create space in the store.  Currently he is looking to put the model kits & supplies on the far left wall as you enter the store (new entrance on the right front of the store - you have to go through the mowers to get to the hobby items. He indicated that he would be putting the Testors Model Master paint in with the Tamiya paint he currently carries.  Other hobby supplies would be carried depending upon demand.
I left him my club card and told him of the upcoming show and that we would contact him after the first of the year about a sponsorship.
Regards to all - HAPPY THANKSGIVING
