Ron,
Did you find the Gladiator I left on your porch?

Ron,

Since the skis are different
Finnish = I-16 ski
Canadian = Gladiator

Wartime colors were:
Black - FS37038
Olive Green - FS34096
with undersides in Light Grey FS36440

The black / olive ratio in coverage was specified to be 2:3

The skis were tested in April of 1941, before Finland entered back into the conflict, so it doesn't have the eastern front yellow band / nose / wingtips.

This is the only other pic I have of this same hurricane.

Ronv

What were the exterior colors of the Finnish Hurricanes?
Thanks

If you want to model the Finnish hurricane, it only leaves you with the code HC-454 for the plane as it was a one off, and not a successful one.  Finns used a light grey for the cockpit interior, and were repainted as part of the in-servicing of the aircraft.

I thought it was CayNayDay Eh. Learn something new everyday Eh!

Ronv

They put all the letters of the alphabet into a hat and then some one pulled one out at a time.....
First letter.....C  ay
Second letter N  ay
Third letter    D   ay!

and there you have it:   CayNayDay

(it sounds better when you say it)

Spanky

Canada:Latin for Great White North.

Do you know how they came up with the name for Canada??

Indian for lots of freaking snow ???

Ronv

Hmmm snow in Canada? Go figure.
Thanks all for looking these up! It looks like I could use the Gloster's skis and fare them in to look like the ones used on the Canadian Hurricane. They look like they were fixed in place compared to the Finnish ones which look retractable. I'll order a prop from Spruebrothers.

Do you know how they came up with the name for Canada??

Thanks

With the last one, I think you could get away with using the I-16 skids. Quickboost made a set in 1/72 and 1/48.

Might be able to borrow some from the Roden kit. Gets you closer without a complete scratch build.

Ron,I figured that Hurricane was a Canadian bird. You know how I figured that out?
Cos there's snow on the ground.Pretty clever eh? Anyway the prop on that plane is a Hamilton Standard prop and Ultracast makes one for the Hurricane.I found it on Sprue Brothers ULT48148 is the item number.Good luck with the skis.

Thanks guys for looking those up for me. I looked at the Omega models, but the resin kit looks a little rough. The photo that Spanky posted is of a Canadian Hawker Hurricane without the propeller spinner since these models had a different propeller. I might have to kit bash a set of skis.
Thanks
