I want to clarify a point Lee brought up.  First, this vote will  determine our permanent home. Second, the fee for the additional hour at the Legion is $100. Service will off set the cost.

I, like the rest of you, wish for things to be different, but we can not afford any other option. Our club funds would not last very long if we are being charged $60 to $100 an hour. We would have to forget about hosting a contest ever again. The club would slowly die.

We could always charge a $20 monthly participation fee to each member, or increase annual dues $120 or more. Even That may not guarantee getting the same time slot every month. We would also be forced  to exclude non paying members.

That is not fit the character of our organization.

Hanger 18.

I don't think Hanger 18 is the final destination for the club given the mentioned minuses. I like the idea of the American Legion, support its mission, function and can be a good fit with our club's mission. That said I think the volunteer commitment will become an issue as the few folks that typically do all the work will get burned out. Where does that leave the club, back at the same spot. Speaking for myself, I may want to help out but some months it's hard to give two times a month to the club. I think if we can use AL for a few meetings including the December meeting and pay the rental fee that would probably be best until a better space is available. For show and tell, we can use our under utilized webpages to do the same thing.

Ryan makes very good points. If either Hangar 18 or the AL post is an interim meeting site until we find something else permanent, then renting the AL rather than committing the club to service, etc. might be an option, unless the AL rental is beyond our budget.

Regarding the drive time:  Because of rush-hour traffic, for all practical purposes, it takes me as long to drive to Cary for a 6pm weeknight meeting as it does to drive to Wake Tech on a Sunday, and Fuquay is just a few miles farther. I live on the wrong side of RTP to get anywhere close to Cary at rush hour - I'll need to leave an hour early to get there by 6pm. That said, I'm okay with Hangar 18 if there's still a chance of finding a better permanent home.

Lee G.

Steve has this information. He has been the point man on this.

Thanks,

David/Steve,

Can one of you send me the commander's name of the AL so I can discuss some other options for volunteer time? Maybe I can work out some make-n-takes or similar activities so as not to be of any burden to anyone in the club. As for a distance issue, we could set up a car pool. I have ridden with Tony and Ryan a couple of times over the years. I live in Butner and can come in I-85 or 50 so I can pretty much meet anyone anyplace. models4troops@gmail.com

My vote is for the American Legion. Despite the long drive, the space sounds so much better than what Hangar 18 has to offer. And the long drive is somewhat mitigated by the fact that meeting days in Fuquay would be Sunday.

Thanks to Stephen and Dave for continuing the quest for a suitable meeting space.

I would say, don't let the fish fry scare you. Just like our contest, you are not obligated and will be covered by the few who always cover.

Legion for me too. Hangar 18 was more convenient for me but it is just too tight for us to meet, especially with show and tell.

Legion would be my vote

At the last meeting there was a suggestion for northern high school.   Is that still an option.  If not I vote for hangar 18 as fuFuqua is too far for me and I cannot commit to fish fry and clean up chores
Ibra - the fish fry was just a suggestion of only one of the activities the Legion would like us to participate in.  I participated last Friday night and was not stuck with any "clean up" chores.  This is an activity that is over a time period that you can sign up for a task and a time.  It was very enjoyable.

Understand you have a distance issue with the Legion Post - you might find it is only about 2-3 miles farther than Wake tech.

To vote for your club location preference: Hangar 18 or the American Legion, just include your first name and the word Hangar or Legion.  Voting will close on July 29.

Thank you,
