About Us

First, let me talk about our chapter; the basic fabric that brings the International Plastic Modelers Society (IPMS) to the local scene. We are a non-profit organization formed in 1981 and have been a chartered member of IPMS USA since 1982 first as the RDG Modelers (Raleigh Durham Goldsboro) and then in 1983 we adopted the name Eagle Squadron with approval from the Eagle Squadron Association. Today we are part of IPMS Region 12 and maintain our long time friendships with  all of the nearby chapters such as Lafayette Scale Modelers and IPMS George Preddy of Greensboro. We are not a huge chapter by the number of members, but we are active promoting the hobby and art of scale modeling  in Raleigh’s Triangle region.

We hold regular meetings during the year where members present in progress and completed works for discussion on model quality and techniques used in construction. Since members build a variety of subjects where they learn many interesting facets and background this info is also shared during our meets. We encourage bringing friends to increase interest and understanding of plastic modeling and IPMS. Our guest speakers provide first hand knowledge of different and special topics. We encourage club members to conduct demonstrations of construction techniques to help expand the knowledge of other club members. Our Christmas meeting is when we reflect back on the year with gift exchanges, recognition of our most improved modeler, and our people’s choice awards for best models made during the year. We also enjoy doing road trips getting together with our friends in nearby IPMS chapters in R12 and R2 for their contest/show events. We love seeing all the models of historical and other subjects on display!

So to recap. We seek members at all levels of skill, and of all ages. Whether you are a new, or inexperienced modeler, or an expert, you are welcome. Whether you simply want to learn techniques to improve the models that you build solely for your own enjoyment, or if you want to compete in model contests, IPMS Eagle Squadron should have something for you. We love visitors and new members that are interested in scale model building. If you are registering to get an account to spam others we’ll find you out. Those who keep trying fake logins will also be dealt with.

IPMS, A Worldwide Organization of Modelers:

The International Plastic Modeling Society (IPMS) was created over 45 years ago by modelers as a means to help one another learn model building and acquire not only basic, but advanced skills that increase the enjoyment of the hobby. The membership extends across many international as well as demographic lines. Our members have varied interests, and not only work in plastic, as our name implies, but metal, wood, resin, and other mediums.

Becoming an IPMS-USA member is easy, and it reaps many benefits. The one mentioned most by our members is the bi-monthly modeling publication called “The Journal.” It provides useful model reviews, techniques, and reference photos, all in color. In addition, regular features provide updates on shows and events. Membership also carries with it discounts at many shows and qualifies you to participate in the annual National Convention each summer. This is the premier modeling event in the USA, drawing modelers from across the USA and beyond. Want to host a local show? Membership in IPMS-USA entitles access to an insurance rider that will save many dollars in show expenses. The Make ‘n Take program sets out to introduce our youth to the hobby with free model kits to build. IPMS-USA also supports our military personnel serving overseas by coordinating collection points for donated kits, supplies, and paints that go directly to the troops.
